The Suntan Special CD-Rom has a directory named CDUtils that contains the programs which make up Suntan Special. These programs are used to install applications and perform configuration tasks.
The CDUtils directory contains a number of sequence files, which have the file extension .Seq. A sequence is a plain text file with a list of applications, one per line. In Suntan Special, an application installs an individual application program or performs a configuration task. Each application corresponds to a subdirectory of the setup directory.
The Setup directory contains a number of subdirectories, each of which contians the files needed to install one application program, apply one patch, or perform one configuration task. While the contents of each subdirectory is unique, each has a REXX program named cdi.cmd. Suntan Special calls this REXX program to perform the task which corresponds to the application name, which is the same as the name of the subdirectory.
The Doc directory contains the web pages documenting this edition of Suntan Special. There is also an OS/2 Information Presentation Facility (IPF) version of the documentation in the cdutils directory.
The value of Suntan Special is that the sequences and applications have been extensively tested to work together to bring correct functionality to your OS/2 or eComStation machine. Each sequence causes the applications for OS/2 to be applied in the correct order, and with the appropriate fixups to give you the best installation possible.
In the root directory of the Suntan Special CD-Rom is the REXX program install.cmd. This program runs a series of screens which installs Suntan Special and helps you choose an upgrade path for your operating system. Suntan Special can take you from the end of the OS/2 installation to a finished, tweaked workstation, ready to use. You can also just add Suntan Special to your already tweaked workstation, and run the tasks one at a time.
Suntan Special contains no software, apart from Suntan Special itself, that cannot be freely downloaded from the internet. It includes no licenses for any software, apart from that for Suntan Special.
